THE POSITION
The Manager of the Infusion Center assumes the daily management of the Infusion Center services at two distinct locations within the system. Scope of responsibilities include but are not limited to: assuring appropriate staffing, budget compliance, clinical competence of staff, accurate billing and coding of services (in conjunction with respective hospital departments), overall Center efficiency and staff performance appraisals. The Manager is expected to participate in department based and organization wide committees and task forces and to lead Center's performance improvement and patient safety/Joint Commission initiatives and requirements. The Manager of the Infusion Center provides direct patient care in urgent or emergency related scenarios and/or significant staffing shortages. Medical Oncology at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center is comprised of a five physician private practice. Beginning in July of 2011 the private practice will become integrated into the UCH system and the medical oncologists will become employees of the hospital. With this integration the infusion center will grow from six chairs and two private rooms to a total of 24 chairs. UCH will break ground on their new cancer center in March of 2012 and will have a targeted completion date at the end of 2013 at which time infusion services will then be housed at the new cancer center. In July of 2010, UCH and the University of Maryland began a strategic affiliation with one another with a full merger anticipated in 2013. The Greenebaum Cancer Center, located at the UMMS University of Maryland Medical Center, is an NCI-designated cancer center and was recently ranked #21 out of 900 cancer programs in the country by US News & World Report.
Successful candidates will possess demonstrated leadership knowledge and track record in the following areas:
• Solid understanding of overall business process and operations, as well as knowledge of cost control principles and practices of an outpatient infusion center.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and support oncology professionals to include mentoring. Team building and being a team player are absolutely vital to the success of this position.
• Demonstrated successful engagement, partnering and alliance building with a broad range of constituencies with a flexible but effective manner, excellent interpersonal, communications, and people skills.
• Proficiency in cultivating excellent physician and physician office relationships.
• Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements in an outpatient, ambulatory, infusion setting
The incumbent needs to be a energetic and dynamic seasoned leader with a minimum of 3-5 years management experience in an outpatient infusion center. Qualified candidates will have successfully completed Oncology Nursing Society chemotherapy and biotherapy training course. Certification in PICC/midline insertion desired. Proven clinical competence and proficiency in the delivery of infusion services are also required. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland. Bachelor's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred. OCN is strongly preferred. Certification in BCLS is required; ACLS certification is highly preferred

Future Cancer Center at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center

Upper Chesapeake Health President and CEO, Lyle Sheldon, unveiled construction plans in early March for a new 75,000 square foot cancer treatment center to be built on Upper Chesapeake Medical Center's campus within one year pending town approval. Included in the plan are additional parking lots, a rooftop garden, and multiple connections to the campus's main building. Services will include medical oncology, radiation oncology, thoracic surgery, general surgery, breast surgery, infusion therapy, a pharmacy, imaging, and lab. Construction is set to be completed by the end of 2013. The center will house two vaults for linear accelerators with the space to expand up to four if needed. The development and operations of the new center will be a collaborative effort between UCH and key leadership at UMMS Greenebaum Cancer Center.
CANCER SERVICES
The oncology programs at Harford Memorial Hospital and Upper Chesapeake Medical Center are accredited by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer (CoC). Both hospitals have met the standards of care set by the CoC for prevention, early detection, diagnostic services and treatments, rehabilitative care, palliative care, navigator services and supportive care. In 2010 UCH saw a total of 650 analytic cases. Cancer services currently offered at Upper Chesapeake Health include medical oncology, surgical oncology, diagnostic services, navigator services and supportive care, and palliative care. Currently, patients needing radiation therapy are referred to 21st Century Oncology located ½ mile from UCMC's campus until the new Cancer Center is complete.
